Sodium bicarbonate or baking soda is far more effective than the conventional and expensive cleaning products. Moreover, this amazing natural ingredient can be used as a beauty product.

Physical and chemical exfoliation and baking soda

The largest organ of the body, the skin, is able to renew itself. Old skin cells die and flake off and new ones appear.

Exfoliation helps to remove the dead skin cells and allow the new ones to replace them at the surface. The exfoliant that is used must effectively remove the dead skin cells and not damage the new ones that grow underneath. There are 2 types of exfoliants:

• Chemical exfoliants that burn the top layers of the skin.
• Physical exfoliants that remove the top layers by scraping them off.

The particles in baking soda remove the dead skin cells physically. It effectively removes the cells without causing irritation.
